Seriously. They are so kind, generous, and thoughtful. They get it. They understand how people ought to be treated.
To elaborate, last week my students wanted to make thank you cards for our custodians to let them know how awesome they are. My amazing custodians were so touched and even wrote my students notes back the next day (which MADE my students' day).
Needless to say, my teaching heart went all a flutter, and we quickly started brainstorming people in our school and ways to help them feel special and important. Each week we will "target" a group, whether it is students, teachers, or anyone in the building. We have tons of ideas planned on how to personalize each note/gift/etc. for each particular person. We even started randomly handing out "high-five" post it notes to kids in the hallway who were doing the right thing, or stickers.
I can't tell you how amazing that class meeting was. Hearing my students brainstorm how to make the world a little more awesome is why I went into teaching. These kids are changing the world for the better! In case you need a little reminder of that, check out the KP video below. :) Spread the awesome!
