Best Moment This Week- I had my 16 week appointment this week and everything looked great! Baby's heart rate was in the 140's, and baby kept kicking the doppler! It sounded like a loud, "THUMP!" every time he/she kicked! I just love getting to hear our little bean's heartbeat and know everything is going well in there!
Symptoms- This week the cravings really started kicking in! I have been craving red vines (still) and GUACAMOLE! I even told my class on Monday and two students brought me in guacamole the next day! Did I mention I have the best class ever? I'm still exhausted by 8:00, but luckily my husband is understanding of the fact that at 7:45 (except on yoga nights), I have to head up to watch Law and Order: SVU on my iPad until I fall asleep! The delectable guacamole my amazing students brought me! Baby Stuff- No new baby purchases or news this week. I can't handle waiting four more weeks to find out if we are having a boy or a girl! Every time I see the cute baby stuff at Target I want to scream and take it all! Speaking of Target, I did scour the clearance racks this week for more maternity clearance. I was able to buy four tops and then use my Cartwheel for an extra 20% off! Score! I'm in such a weird season for maternity clothes...it's cold here, but I don't really want to buy sweaters and jackets when I know I will need clothes in April, May, June, and July! I've mostly stuck to buying t-shirts and layering cardigans over them.

Symptoms- No new symptoms this week! I'm still pretty exhausted most nights by 9:00. On Sunday my husband and I went to see The Book of Mormon and luckily our seats were for the 6:30 show! I made it through the entire thing! Glad we are exposing Baby T to musical theatre at an early age...:)
I have more acne this week, and the need to eat is becoming a more dominant trait. I have to eat when I first wake up in the morning, and if I don't have lunch ready by a normal time I'm not in a good place! Baby Stuff- I had to give in and finally buy maternity jeans and pants. My mom and I went shopping and found some really cute stuff. I can't believe how expensive most maternity pants are! It's like they KNOW you are going to reach a day when you just can't wear normal pants anymore so they charge you double! I've also been going to prenatal yoga once a week! It feels so good to be doing yoga again. I took the first trimester off just in case. My muscles felt so much better after getting back in the groove! This week my sweet brother and sister in law also gave us a TON of baby stuff! We have a bouncer, a swing, bottles, a moby wrap, an exersaucer, a bumbo, and more! We feel so lucky that they are willing to share their leftover baby goodies with us! Best Moment This Week- We cleaned out the future nursery! It was actually fun getting rid of all of our stuff and making room for this little bean. As soon as I told my students that I was having a baby, the debate over Baby T's gender began. It is truly a heated topic in my classroom, with kids "siding" with one another and testifying their reasons why. Hey, at least it goes along with our argumentative writing unit...sort of! I thought I'd share what the Old Wive's Tales are saying about Baby T's gender. Of course, we won't know until the last week of February for sure, but it's fun to guess! Heartbeat- Girl Cravings- Girl Chinese Calendar- Girl Baking Soda Test- Girl Emotions- Boy Acne- Girl Morning Sickness- Boy Skin- Boy Headaches- Girl Personally, my "hunch" changes daily. Any guesses out there?
Symptoms- So far this week has been pretty uneventful symptoms wise. I did have some mild round ligament pain early in the week that seemed to go away. My skin has been constantly itchy no matter how much lotion I use, and I still can't seem to get enough sleep! I'm hoping I get some more energy back in the weeks to come, but since I am back to work I know I am more exhausted than usual.
I'm still craving fruits and yogurt, and this week I just HAD to have some red vines licorice in my pantry to snack on after dinner! Baby Stuff- This week I started wearing some of my maternity clothes. I'm still wearing normal pants with a belly band (except for leggings, which I've discovered are the most wonderful invention in the world), but I have a feeling those days are numbered. We still haven't decided on any names yet. We are waiting until we find out the gender! Best Moment This Week- Hearing my students come up with name options for Baby T. Several suggestions include: their name, their brother/sister's name, and celebrity names. I don't think there will be a Katy Perry Tackett in the future, but you never know. :) Bump- Can you believe I already have a bump? My husband keeps touching it because he is blown away by me actually having a belly. Symptoms- So far this pregnancy has been pretty mild as far as symptoms go. I had some nausea that was pretty constant from weeks 7-9, but my major symptom has been fatigue. I'm asleep every night by 8:00 P.M. At school I have reached my limit by 2:00 and find myself dragging through the afternoons. I also have been waking up to pee a few times a night and having a hard time falling back to sleep. Luckily my sweet husband bought me a pregnancy pillow which has done wonders! I've also had to eat pretty constantly throughout this pregnancy. In fact, when my best friend got married December 20th in Texas, I had to pack tons of extra snacks to keep me from feeling woozy/sick! I've been craving orange juice, carbs, red vines, and fruit this week too!
Baby Stuff- We were so excited to announce the pregnancy this week, that now we can finally start thinking about more baby stuff! We don't have any definite names picked out, though we have discussed a few of them. Baby T actually got lots of Christmas gifts already, and I couldn't resist buying a few clearance Christmas gifts for him/her either! We have a ton of things to plan for in the next six months! Telling My Students- Telling my kids this week was so fun! I made up a math worksheet titled "What does Mrs. Tackett need to buy this year?" with a puzzle at the bottom that spelled out, "Buy diapers." My students were adorable! Some of my favorite responses from them were:
Best Moment This Week- When my nephew, who is three, proudly proclaimed that the baby's name should be Rafael Twinkletoes. I'm going to use my blog to keep track of things throughout this pregnancy, so I thought I'd start with an update of the first trimester! We found out I was pregnant by complete surprise! I went to the doctor on a Monday for a normal OBGYN appointment, where I informed my doctor I had been having some twinge-like pains on my side. She drew some blood to run tests on my thyroid and told me that she would go ahead and run a pregnancy panel "just in case." I was due to start that day, but didn't think anything of it. I had even taken a test the Saturday before and it was a big fat negative. Well, when I got home, I decided to go ahead and take a test on a whim. And BAM! It was positive! My husband and I were completely shocked and when my doctor's office called me back to confirm the pregnancy the next day, I went ahead and had an appointment and ultrasound scheduled. Of course, the fear of miscarriage set in right away. My husband and I kept everything extremely quiet. Around 5 weeks, I had some very light spotting and freaked out (freaked out is an understatement and now looking back, I know the spotting was basically nothing and I should have just relaxed). I went in for an ultrasound the next day at 5 weeks 3 days and my doctor assured me everything looked great and I just needed to relax. I had another ultrasound already scheduled for 5 weeks 6 days, and she assured me that we would check everything then to make sure the pregnancy was progressing. Low and behold, at that appointment, we saw a heartbeat! I still couldn't believe that I was actually seeing a tiny flicker on the screen! We felt a sense of relief, but still kept quiet until our eight week appointment. At our eight week appointment, everything looked PERFECT! We told our families and still couldn't believe that we were actually having a baby! I had a few ultrasounds after that just to check in on the little bean...it is still unbelievable! My husband and I are completely over the moon. The loss we experienced last May was so awful, but it feels so nice to be enjoying this pregnancy and to know there is a healthy little peanut growing inside me! I plan on posting weekly updates, mostly for myself and to remember this pregnancy! Thank you so much for the wonderful comments yesterday! We are so elated!
Sorry I've been MIA lately...but I've had a pretty amazing reason for it! That's right! Baby Tackett is scheduled to arrive this July! We are BEYOND excited!
