We had a great time doing some last minute "to-do's," playing Just Dance using my computer and projector, and just enjoying spending time together. We even had a talent show and fashion show using some of the leftover costumes from the musicals I directed.
As a teacher, it is easy to want things to be structured all of the time (especially for me). I always have a plan and a back-up plan for everything. I've spent the first two days of my summer vacation organizing and re-organizing my school supplies and my house and desperately trying to have a plan for every day. I think sometimes in order to make the most of our time with our kids it's important to relax and let go every once in a while. Some of the best learning and growing happens during those surprisingly unstructured moments. So try it every once in a while! You could even surprise yourself by earning "first place" in an impromptu middle school fashion show... :)
